1.6 New Character Leniency Policy

We know great characters take time to build—and to build for. Let’s make that easier.

At Volaire, we want your first few events to be immersive, exciting, and stress-free—even if you’re still working on gathering all your In-Play props and gear. That’s why we offer a Leniency Period for all new characters, giving you time to fully develop your physical representations (physreps) without limiting your experience.

This policy applies to all new characters, even if you're a returning or veteran player. Each new character gets their own 4-event leniency timeline.

Potion, Alchemy, and Poison Labs

To represent a crafting lab, a physrep (physical representation) is required. Until you have one:

  • Events 1–2: You are assumed to have access to a lab. You may spend your full allotment of Production Points.
  • Events 3–4: If you still don’t have a lab physrep, you may only spend 50% of your Production Points.
  • After Event 4: A lab physrep is required to spend any Production Points.

A lab physrep can only be used by one character per event.

Spellbooks

For spellcasters, a spellbook physrep is required to access your known spells.

  • Events 1–2: You are assumed to have a complete spellbook. You may study all known spells.
  • Events 3–4: Without a spellbook physrep, you may study only General (non-specialized) spells.
  • After Event 4: A spellbook physrep is required to study any spells at all.

One spellbook may only be used by one character per event. Sharing between characters is not allowed.

Armor

Armor physreps are essential for gaining full defensive benefits.

  • Events 1–2: You receive the maximum armor value for your class, provided you are in appropriate costuming.
  • Events 3–4: Without armor physreps, you receive 50% of the maximum armor for your class.
  • After Event 4: Without physrep armor, you default to Costume Armor (5 points max), regardless of class.

Armor must visually match the medieval fantasy aesthetic of your character’s class and race. Staff reserves the right to determine if a costume qualifies for armor credit.

Weapons

Need a weapon? We’ve got you covered (temporarily).

  • Events 1–2: You may borrow weapons at no cost from the game’s arsenal.
  • After Event 2: A rental fee of $5 per weapon (max 2) will apply.

Failure to Return: If a weapon is not returned by the end of the event:

  • You will forfeit all XP for that event.
  • You may be asked to pay a $10 lost equipment fee.

All borrowed weapons must pass a safety check and be signed out through Monstering staff.

Final Thoughts

Your creativity fuels the world of Volaire—but props and visuals help bring it to life. This leniency period is here to support you while you gather or build what you need. After four events, we expect all characters to have the basic physreps required for their roles.
