So—you’ve chosen your race. Now it’s time to decide what your character is good at.

What kind of training have they received? What talents have they developed over time? Are they a disciplined soldier, a clever trickster, a master of arcane knowledge, or something else entirely?

To answer these questions, you'll need to select a Character Class.

A Character Class represents the kind of education, training, and focus your character has received throughout their life. It shapes not only how your character approaches the world, but also how they grow within it. From a game mechanics standpoint, your chosen Class determines the Experience Point (XP) cost of acquiring skills—both during character creation and as you progress through events.

Each class comes with its own set of specialties, advantages, and limitations. Some classes are versatile and adaptable, while others are highly focused on a particular playstyle or combat role.

What follows is a detailed overview of all the Character Classes available in Volaire, including the benefits and restrictions associated with each. Take your time exploring them—your Class is a foundational part of your character’s identity, both in and out of play.

Restricted Classes

Some of the classes are considered restricted because they are particularly difficult to play for one reason or another. Any class labeled “Restricted” must be approved through Logistics before you can play one. Oftentimes, such classes are not allowed during initial character creation. In these cases, there is an In-Play procedure for attaining the class; you must meet the set prerequisites for these classes before your character can become that class. This is explained in each relevant description.
